We're celebrating 40 years of transforming science education.
Announcement:
Due to the government shutdown, beginning on Sunday, Oct. 12, the Smithsonian Science Education Center does not plan to update our website. We will resume updating our website once the government reopens.
The Smithsonian Science Education Center connects classrooms around the world with the science, history, research, and culture of the Smithsonian. Through hands-on STEM curriculum, resources, and professional development programs, we inspire curiosity, empower K-12 educators, and ensure every learner has access to high-quality science education.
Announcing the Douglas M. Lapp and Anne B. Keiser Endowed Directorship of the Smithsonian Science Education Center.

We are transforming K-12 Education Through Science in collaboration with communities across the globe.
The idea of transformation has always been at the core of our work. Since our founding in 1985, we have: embedded innovative technologies into our K-12 STEM education resources for schools, homes, and communities; adapted approaches that ensure all students and teachers are included in STEM opportunities; and, centered sustainability within our STEM curriculum and professional development programs for teachers to help prepare the next generation of innovators for a shared transformative future.
