Join the Smithsonian Science Education Center (SSEC) to learn how to support young people to build their systems-thinking skills and knowledge around healthy ocean systems! Take part in a virtual professional development academy on the Smithsonian Science for Global Goals community research guide, Ocean! How can we create a sustainable future for the ocean?
This professional development academy will offer an in-depth training for educators into the key activities and resources within the Ocean! Community research guide. This includes building knowledge around modeling ocean systems, mapping, guiding student-driven investigations, integrating community connections to the ocean, and opportunities to interact with ocean experts, all in relation to the importance of healthy ocean systems to a sustainable future and achieving the UN SDGs. This virtual academy will include synchronous Zoom sessions and an interactive Moodle course.
By attending this training you will:

Learn about the interconnectedness of various ocean systems and investigate how your community is connected to that system and impacts a sustainable future for the ocean

Gain an understanding of how to facilitate inclusive, student-led, systems modeling and mapping, and support students taking action based on their ocean systems models

Develop an action plan for implementing the guide in your context
