PA INTERMEDIATE! SSEC Unit Director Dr. Carol O’Donnell gave a speech to Pennsylvania intermediate teaching units on the Smithsonian Science Education Center’s Gallup Report on Educating for Sustainably Development. The speech also highlighted how the Smithsonian Science for Global Goals program aligns with PA Science Technology Engineering, Environmental Literacy and Sustainability (STEELS) standards.

Climate Literacy: SSEC Unit Director Dr. Carol O’Donnell gave a talk highlighting the US Global Change Research Program and its participation in the development and release of the Climate Literacy Guide, which outlines 8 key principals of what it means to be climate literate. This work also results in a companion guide centered on the skills that are necessary for climate literacy. There were 48 attendees from across the Smithsonian who participated in the workshop.

International Visitor Leadership Program: On February 14th, SSEC’s Carol O’Donnell, Victor Lucena and Hannah Osborn presented for the International Leadership Development Program group of 15 educators on Education in the Digital age. They presented SSEC’s learning strategies, game development process, eBooks and video storytelling. With 15 international educators in attendance, Carol, Victor, and Hannah shared SSEC resources including digital games, eBooks, video series, and more.

Johnny is the Executive Assistant to Smithsonian Science Education Center Director Dr. Carol O’Donnell. He was born and raised in Golden, Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder graduating Summa Cum Laude in Policial Science with a minor in Sociology. In 2018 he jumped onto a re-election campaign, and after a successful campaign worked as a staff assistant in the Member’s legislative office on Capitol Hill in Washington. After two and a half years he transitioned roles to become the scheduler for a Congressman of Southern New Jersey.  After he departed the Hill, he worked for a think tank for just under a year before he found himself lucky enough to take this incredible opportunity with the Smithsonian. He is passionate about a lot of things: food, film, roller coasters, oil painting, video games, pets, and people…just to name a few!
